Reliance Goes BIG – Acquires 50% In Codemasters The British Developer

Zapak has forayed international arena with this one. One of its kind acquisition in the gaming space in India the Reliance Big Enterainment guys have acquired 50% in  British Game Development company Codemasters.

Balderton Capital a European venture capital firm that first invested in Codemasters in 2005. Zapak the online gaming player shall be overseeing this investment for Reliance Big Entertainment.

This marks the international foray of  Zapak in the world of video games.  Zapak also controls Jump Games a mobile development company with footprint across Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. So this new addition adds a new market in UK in Zapaks kitty. Codemasters has major franchises in cricket games (The Ashes) and racing games (Formula 1, Dirt2 and Race Driver Grid) and this would be leveraged by the Zapak team across India as well is what im assuming.

All in all this does make Zapak a serious contender as a global gaming player. Only time will tell though how the businesses are cross leveraged and how Zapak uses the strengths of each player and market to its benefit.
