Google India Adds Shopping Info To Search

Google India has integrated a new feature to its search in India. Its added a shopping tool that automatically provides information about products and prices as well. This tool scans Indian shopping sites and webpages and extracts information on products and their pricing. Check screenshot below:

The range of products that this tool searches is quite vast and ranges right from mobile phones to household goods like washing machines and even niche categories like RO water filter as well.

Besides for the product information and range of products it also provides a price range in which a customer can search for his or her product.

How to use this new feature?

To use Google’s Shopping tool follow the following steps:

  1. Enter the product name into the search box at www.google.co.in
  2. click on the “Show Options …” link located above the search results
  3. Select “Shopping”

SEO for Shopping sites?

This does open a new area of concern for shopping and ecommerce site. One where they have to optimize for coming first on the shopping tool results as well. I assume the same SEO principles would be applying to ranking a result first vs ranking it second.

Good for Ecommerce?

This is definitely great news for ecommerce in India. Google is the no.1 search engine by far in India and this new feature does bring a lot more accessibility to product and pricing information which is key in driving online purchases. This new feature will surely benefit ecommerce players in India in the long run.
