Bharti Airtel Introduces Mobile Bazaar

Want to sell old furniture but don’t have an access to e-bay? Don’t worry. Airtel Bharti has a solution to the problem. Now buy and sell at your own comfort using your cell phone. Just an SMS. That’s all it takes. No internet connection required. Bharti Airtel is soon to launch a new application “Mobile Bazaar” wherein all registered users can trade almost anything and everything on the move. From electronics to real estate to something as small as a pen. According to this Hindu report the SMS-based service would enable buyers and sellers to hook up with each other through messages just like the Web portal, ebay, does for Internet users.

The pilot run is already on its way and Mr. Raghunath Mandava, Chief Marketing officer, Airtel Bharti sees mutliple uses for Mobile Bazaar. He feels segments like real estate, electronics, etc. will all benefit from this tool.

New age apps are the mantra as far as mobile operators are concerned be it Airtel or Aircel! Bharti’s App Central’s 2.5 million downloads of apps would have been impetus enough for them to consider introducing more innovations in the mobile apps space. They had earlier launched apps like tax collector, which accepts payment and captures the details instantly on the customer’s BlackBerry and a traffic automation solution for the Bangalore Traffic Police

If this report is to be believed then the future for mobile apps seems very bright as there were 7 billion mobile app downloads in 2009 which is to grow at a rate of 92% CAGR to 50 billion by 2012.
