IPL Merchandise and Apps Hit The Web & Ovi


IPL hysteria is going from one level to another with more and more companies looking to leverage it by providing one service or another. Here are two more such announcements that provide official IPL goodies to fans.

Infibeam To Provide Official IPL Merchandise

Infibeam the company which is offlate known more for its e-reader product Pi has announced that it has partnered with IPLT20.com to power their online store for selling merchandise. Mr. Vishal Mehta, CEO Infibeam.com, said, “With the IPL 2010, coming to home turf, cricket fans in India has more reasons to smile. We are proud to partner with GCV on launching the official online shopping store for branded IPL merchandise.”

The products available for sale include Jerseys, Backpacks, Bags, Gym bags, Flags, Bracelets, Trumpets, Wallets, Water bottles, Wrist bands and other accessories from renowned brands like Adidas, Puma and Reebok.

Last year Ebay had setup a store for IPL Merchandise by tying up with Reebok, Puma and Adidas.

So while Infibeam is peddling merchandise DCI has launched the official mobile app on the OVI store for Nokia users.

DCI launches Official IPL app on OVI Platform

DCI Mobile Studios (A division of Dot Com Infoway) announced that its IPL T20 cricket application is now available on the Nokia OVI Store portal. The app was earlier launched in the iTunes Store and is now made available for Nokia smartphones through the OVI store platform. To download the official IPL T20 app users need to click via OVI Store on the Nokia handset or from the web on www.ovi.com for just €2 (Euros). Once downloaded, users can use the app till this 2010s’ IPL season and need to re-subscribe for the future IPL seasons.

Mr C R Venkatesh, Managing Director & CEO, DCI, said “With IPL T20 app for Nokia smartphones, more than 200 million smartphone users worldwide will be able to take the IPL T20 Cricket app features. Alongside, Symbian platform enables us to bring this year’s IPL season to more and more Nokia smartphone users, ensuring a good scale for our mobile app across all platforms and other compelling mobile solutions, such as IPL T20 app. We’re seeing numerous downloads a day on Apples’ iTunes Store and now, we believe that this IPL T20 app for Nokia smartphones will have wide appeal to Symbian users.”

The above two cases are testimony to the fact that cricket sells and how in India. It will be great to see the numbers at the end of the tournament both on merchandise sales and app downloads to ascertain the vas and online sales impact of a cricketing event like this.

    IPL merchandise was a hit with Indians. In future, may be we can see a lot more items labeled with logos of IPL teams
