Are you looking for good discount offers to shop, spa or place to hang around with friends? It seems the web would be the perfect place to find out about such discounts. There have been almost half a dozen group discount sites that have been launched in the last 6 months. We feature some of them below:
SnapDeal is launched by Jasper India in First week of Feb, 2010, presently offering discounts in Delhi, Mumbai & Bangalore and planning to scale it up to 25 Indian cities by end-of-this year.
Currently, this portal is self funded by Jasper. SnapDeal has been welcomed by Facebook users and have around 13,138 Fans.
MyDala: Operating since Nov 09. Based on group buying process – Deal is posted on site and people bid for the deal, if deal doesn’t grap enough people then its cancelled else people avail the deal. Mydala has more than 19000 fans on Facebook. MyDala has tieup with iMint for shooping rewards.
Wanamo: Wanamo is also launched very recently in March itself and grapped good audience. Have more than 500 Facebook Fans. Currently offering deals in 9 cities.
Mobstreet: Operating in Mumbai only. Have 100 fans on facebook. Product offering includes Best Deals and Mandi. Best deal (i assume you all understood now) and Mandi will feature exclusive sale for few days. However, no recent deal is available on site.
Grabbon: Operating in Bangalore only. Grabbed more than 2000 fans on facebook. Deals are quite ok but from Bangalore only.
A lot of sites on same idea will surely be in development phase too.
Concept of group bargain sites is very new in India though its been around in the west started by sites like groupon. Awareness is required on user front in India. All of the above sites are serving same purpose but treatment is different. Our suggestion to these players don’t get into red ocean competition, infact make a breakthrough by doing tieups to offer good deals that may attract some real buyers for them.

Best part is they all came up in a period of 6 months. It is as if Groupon got some media and clones started to spring up. Given the model, it will largely be a regional play. Money can be made. Brands (especially apparel) are doing deals to shed off their left over inventory. I saw a deal where a large apparel brand offered 500 of its sunglasses at 10% the MRP (basically cover the manufacturing and maintenance cost).
Good luck guys. Someone should launch a service to aggregate these deals.

BrandsIndiaOnline.com website was launched in 2008 with the same concept.
This is misleading. Buyasone.com was launched around 2000 in India, but seems to have folded up in 2005 (wayback archives)
Another site on group buy concept is GroupNDeal – http://www.groupndeal.com which is based on a, radically, very different and innovative implementation as compared to existing group buy sites. Unlike other sites, GroupNDeal concentrates on products rather than services. For more info, please visit the GND’s blog @ http://www.blog.groupndeal.com.
