It looks like almost every other cellular operator is launching their own AppStore these days. Thanks to Steve Jobs (of Apple and the iPhone fame) who has led to the rise of a new standard in the mobile industry – The Coveted AppStore. According to reports, Telecom major Vodafone Essar has also launched its very own application store in India which was more of a silent launch. The store has already recorded a download of 10K+ mobile apps within just a month of it’s launch.

Last month we told you about the launch of an App Store from Bharti Airtel and just a few days back we also reported to you about Infosys’s tie up with 9 Telcos for its App platform ‘Flypp’. According to the official press release the app-store has over 800 applications under various categories like Entertainment, Utility, Finance, Social Networking, Games, etc. which serve a diverse range of functions from daily utilities to pure entertainment. Over 15% of applications are available free of charge while the majority of paid applications are priced in the range of Rs. 5 to Rs. 30
The application store is available to customers through data enabled handsets. Customers can send a message APP to 111 (toll free) and also access the store through the portal Vodafone live! by clicking a link on the home page.
