It is largely argued that women are heavy users of online social networking and now that theory seems to overtake the mobile social networking scene as well. A recent nielsen study reveals that women constitutes majority ( almost 55 % ) of mobile social networking audience .

Nielsen study also reveals that women adopting mobile social networking are 10 percent more stickier in uses compared to men.The large chunk of women audience (70 per cent) is in the age group of 25-54 years.Teens constitutes a very minor part of mobile social networking.

The survey results are surprising as majority of social networking usages from women are for social gaming – absent from mobile medium. Men till now were perceived to be more technology savvy even in terms of social networking usages so these stats are an eye-opener.
Nielsen survey would provide much needed respite to digital media industry as marketeers mostly target women audience through TV, Radio and other traditional channels. These stats will thus help them to concisely understand the demographics of mobile social networking which is on a stupendous rise. Women are becoming driving force in proliferation of social gaming and social networking.
