Ghaziabad Guy Denies Official Website To IIM Ranchi – Denial Of Web Identity?

The Common Aptitude Test 2009 – 10 which is a gateway to some of India’s finest B-Schools has already failed it’s organizers big time. All the fuss is now finally over as the results have been declared and fates of many aspirants have been decided. Prometric – the test agency that did all the needful for CAT to happen online (which was criticised a lot by the aspirants) has also come up with their CAT scoring methodology. Starting this year some new IIMs such as the Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi will begin functioning.

All this online CAT test thing and adding more IIMs may definitely benefit students and the administration but there are a few students who felt left out in the race and were definitely not benefited by the Online CAT. One such student is (may be) Ashish Kumar from Ghaziabad. To vent his anger over all this filmi-ishyle CAT, he went one step ahead and registered a domain called iimranchi.in in his name!  Going by this, iimranchi.in should have been the official website of the the institute – Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi (Even IIM Shillong has it’s official website as http://iimshillong.in.) But, it looks like IIM Ranchi won’t be having iimranchi.in now for sometime unless the authorities do something about it. Some time back we had told you about the govt. making  it mandatory for educational institutions  to have websites. The website currently has an image which looks as below:

iim-ranchi

This incident is an example of serious web identity theft and definitely tells about the sad state of the ungoverned web and bad internet policies. In a similar incident, Facebook deleted a fanpage of Star India Network without citing any reasons. Well as far as domains are concerned, no one actually governs any domain registration provider. So technically any one can register any domain. But just think of a situation where someone registers a domain by your name name puts up obscene pictures on them and posts illicit content about you on it, will you have any thing to do other than complaining to the webhost?

Although it is not possible for a domain registrar to verify every domain registration requests but atleast the critical ones like famous institutions and other famous things could be put into that verification list so that no one makes a mockery of these strategically important things.

We are going by the fact that IIM Shillong has a website http://iimshillong.in and thus IIM Ranchi may have a similar website, http://iimranchi.in. Now that such a thing has happened, there is a high possibility IIM Ranchi may have a ernet or ac.in style website like the other IIMs except IIM Shillong.
PS. The CATIIM website links IIM Ranchi to a PDF and not a website, so nothing can be said as of now.

    Thank You

@Peeyush As Debjit had mentioned in the post, IIM Ranchi cannot have this iimranchi.in site(unless they buy him out). currently IIM Ranchi does not have any official site..
