You must have heard a lot about WiMAX already. Now you can use it too. Thanks to BSNL, you will soon be able to browse the web anywhere with the country’s first mobile broadband – 4G Internet Access Network – The Urban Mobile WiMAX. BSNL was also the first to introduce 24 MBPS Broadband internet services in the country. BSNL commercially launched the service in Kerala in the presence of Union minister of state for Agriculture and Consumer Affairs K V Thomas.

Over 900 BTS (Base Transmitting Stations) have been deployed to cover the entire state. Initially 450 of these BTS-es would be set up to cover all major cities, district headquarters and important towns at a project cost of about Rs 100 crore and another 450 BTS would be commissioned to cover the remaining towns, later.
WiMAX boasts of 37 mbps wireless connectivity and provides features like high speed broad band connectivity anywhere, anytime for devices like Desktop, Laptop wire-free. The technology is said to provide access to broadband at a cost performance ratio that is far better than any other technology but I doubt this with the tariff plan details that have been released – Home Plan with a fixed monthly charge of Rs 999 while the Business plan is Rs 1,999 for a band width 512 to 2 mbps.
