50 million tweets per day on Twitter
Twitter, the popular microblogging site which is being used almost everyone these days has recorded some really impressive metrics off late. According to a release, almost 50 million tweets are being posted on a daily basis on Twitter. Launched in 2007, Twitter had announced 5000 tweets daily on a average in the same year. The number went on to increase to 3 lakh tweets per day in 2008 and in 2010, the number has risen to 500 lakhs per day – that is close to 165X growth compared to last year in terms of tweet message volumes.
Although these figures are not even close to those of Facebook – Around a billion messages sent everyday through Facebook’s chat. Can twitter every equal Facebook, say in 2 years? This, only time will tell!
