Tata DoCoMo is indeed following on its industry breaking moves by giving away completely free access to Major social Networks like – Facebook, Twitter, Orkut & LinkedIn through its Buddynet Plan. The plan will also offer free usage of Nimbuzz chatting app on its network by Buddynet subscribers.
Buddynet Plan was unveiled a month ago which allows mobile subscribers to call other buddynet users at preferably low rates of just 1 paisa/6 seconds for Local calls and 1 paisa/2 seconds for STD calls. The plan entails weekly rent of Rs.7 and seems to be banking on youth to grow its subscriber base. The pricing is pretty intelligent in a way it requires other invitees (during cheap calls) to also be a subscriber to buddynet services .
The free access to Social networks and chatting will provide it enough buzz for its youth-oriented service plan as majority of youth are now glued to social networks through mobile Web. The access will however be restricted to stated social networks only and nimbuzz app will not support skype texting as well.
Majority of Low to Middle-end phone owners are heavy users of social networks and chatting apps. The free usages thus allows TATA DoCoMo to attract such category of subscribers. The low pricing will also not affect its revenues as currently it offers cheapest calling prices through the plan and such schemes will only increase loyalty of mobile subscribers.
The service T & C page however states that the free access will be only available till 15 May 2010 but we are quite sure the company will extend it to a long time and will even find industry backing to such moves.
