BSNL the state owned telecom giant has started making giant strides in the services its providing. The latest one is the launch of 24 MBPS broadband connection that will now be available to consumers. But wait a minute! there is a catch this would be provided only to those consumers who reside close to BSNL’s broadband exchange nodes. The 24 Mbps broadband will be available to customers who are at a distance of up to 500 metres and 16 Mbps broadband will be available to customers up to around 1 km from the exchange.

The cost of both these high speed broadbands is quite high too 24 MBPS at 9999 per month and 16 MBPS at 4999 per month. There have been reports of BSNL launching connections of upto 500 MBPS even earlier but nothing has seen the light of the day. Infact India is pegged to hit a meagre number of 20 million broadband connection in the next 5 years which means that such high speeds with such expensive tags rarely have a ready market out there just yet.
The other news from the BSNL stable is the introduction of blackberry services in the pre paid segment in India. The tariff for life plan is Rs 298 per month, the tariff for social plan is Rs 299. The tariff for the regular plan has been fixed at Rs 991 per month.
I wonder how many Blackberry users are having prepaid cards? Or is this a way to increase adoption of blackberry among pre-paid users? The only target audience I can see for this is college kids who would like to have both a pre paid and a blackberry which is in vogue these days. Correct me if wrong..

Great news… If only they could provide 4 MBPS unlimited for 999 then that would be even better
