After Indya.com & In.com, Its Time For India.com

India has seen the launch of Indya.com and the In.com but now its time for the authentic (atleast in spelling) India.com to be launched. This one is from the stable of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL). ZEEL has tied up with Mail.com Media Corporation (MMC), a leading digital media company based in Los Angeles, USA and announced its plan to launch a entertainment portal India.com.

India.com will be a joint venture between ZEEL and MMC and will be an online entertainment portal having mobile elements as well. Arvindra Singh Kanwal has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the venture. Arvind recently was the revenue officer at Smsgupshup and earlier played the same role at Rediff.com as well.

All in all this does look like Zee’s big foray into digital media. Its not the first media company to venture into digital in recent time there has been Web18 which is the arm of Network18 did it with In.com while Star tried doing it with Indya.com during dotcom bust days and NDTV has tried a bunch of things right from video sharing sites like tubaah to a plethora of tie up based micro sites.

It remains to be seen what would be the actual content strategy and launch strategy for a platform like India.com. Atleast on the domain name front they have the most memorable domain name possible and that should help them quite a bit with their word of mouth as well post launch. But the key is to see what kind of services get offered by this platform both online and on mobile.

  1. Rajiv, this is second coming for India in India, they were there earlier during the internet bu-r-st time (assuming India never saw a boom time ;-) ) and closed shop in 2000-01-02.

Lets see how Zee shapes the story through Arvindra, for whom this is like home coming keeping in mind he was President with them earlier :-)
