Mobile World Congress RoundUp – Day 3

Like the other two days, the third day at the Mobile World Congress was also full of news and and amazing stuff and showcases from the mobile world. Day 3 saw the announcement of Firefox Mobile version for Android and Opera’s plans of entering the Apple App Store. Lets see some more things that happened on the third day at the MWC in some details.

Firefox Mobile For Android Soon Expected

After Nokia, Mozilla now plans to launch the Mobile Firefox – Fennec on the Android Platform too, before the year end itself. And if you are both a Firefox Lover and an Android User than you probably have many reasons to be happy now. Although Fennec is based on the C++  programming language, Android will still be able to run it as Google added support for more development languages other than Java.

Opera Mini For The iPhone – Will It Be A Success?

Opera showcased the mobile version of it’s browser for the iPhone platform at the MWC. According to initial reports, Opera ran faster and in a more smooth way than the built in browser – Safari for the iPhone.  But now the problem is Opera’s entry into the app-store (from where users will download Opera browser on their iPhones). Apple has always maintained stringent policies about accepting apps for the app store and generally decline all those apps that try to implement a core functionality of the iPhone.

Nokia Plans To Switch To Hardware That Powers The Nexus One and HTC Desire

Qualcomm and Nokia have started working together to bring out Handsets that are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Processor,  later this year.  All this was brought to light by Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs while speaking at the ongoing MWC. The latest version of the snapdragon processor runs at 1Ghz and a Qualcomm-Nokia phone would really be a huge jump for Nokia whose fastest phone runs at 600Mhz (The Nokia N900). It also happens that all the latest smartphones – The Nexus One and the HTC Desire are powered by the SnapDragon processor.

Microsoft’s Plans With Windows Mobile 6.5

Amidst all the hype created by the Windows Phone 7 Series OS, everyone seems to have forgotten the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS which was released just before the launch of Windows Phone 7 Series as a stop gap OS. But now that Windows Phone 7 Series is Live and running, Microsoft plans to re-launch Windows Mobile 6.5 as Windows Mobile Classic for the devices which might not support Windows Phone 7 Series as of now or may have compatibility issues.
