Hungama Adopts New Tech – Plans to Reach More Subscribers

South Asia’s largest digital entertainment company, Hungama Media made an announcement about their adoption of Korea based INKA Network’s DRM Adaptor® interoperability technology for their digital entertainment store-front, Hungama.com at the GSMA Mobile World Congress. This addition to Hungama’s arsenal will now enable users to get more than 500,000 titles of Bollywood movies and India based TV episodes right on their mobile devices (more than 250 various kinds of mobile devices). Last month we had told you about Hungama.com’s initiative for Musicians and Artists by launching a portal called ArtistAloud.com

Hungama offers the largest catalog of Bollywood movies available in India and will now be available to over 2,000,000 users as a result of the adoption of DRM Adaptor®. INKA’s DRM Adaptor® basically expands the availability of Hungama’s WMDRM™ encrypted contents to over 250 OMA™ DRM equipped mobile devices.  With DRM Adaptor®’s DRM and codec translation ability, the reach of their content will only widen and get them more business eventually.

Neeraj Roy, Managing director and CEO, Hungama Digital Media said that this move from Hungama of extending it’s services to mobile devices will actually make all Hungama.com users happy as they can now get all their favourite content right on their mobile devices. As India is emerging as one of the fastest growing mobile phone markets, we have reason to believe that Hungama.com’s Mobile Ventures may not see a dark side.
