Last week, there were words about the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) seeking views of the industry on 4G Mobile Services and now according to a report, Tata Teleservices strongly supports the TRAI to phase out the process for introducing 4G mobile technology in India. 3G is already an old technology launched way back in 2001 and we are late by 9 years already. Also, 23 international operators will launch the 4G service globally this year. And if India gives in too, it will only help us match advanced countries in terms of high internet speeds.

There has been much fuss about the 3G launch in India and it still looks like the 3G launch is not going any where atleast among the private players. In such a situation we can not comment on what may happen if 4G spectrum bidding is announced too! We have earlier told you that 4G won’t hamper the 3G auction, but now it seems things may change to some extent. 4G provides 10 times faster internet speed than 3G and has support for live Hi-Def TV content. Now, if TRAI seriously plans on Bringing 4G to the country, why would any Telecom Operator waste money and time on implementing the 10 year old 3G technology?
BSNL already has 3G services up and running in various parts of India and the reaction of it’s 3G services have been mixed, i.e. both good and bad. Tata Tele’s interest in the 4G technology may have many implications. It is quite possible that Tata Tele is working hard to get infrastructure and machinery required for 4G and may be very well one of the first and earliest bidders for the 4G spectrum.

Judging by the way authorities have gone about with 3G, there is doubt over the rolling out of 4g. it is going to be anything BUT instantaneous. service operators will not want their infrastructure to go to waste. plus, 4G handsets, as of now, are few, consume more power and arent cheap.
this is wht shud have happened in the first place .. better late then never .. still notings lost .. i was failing to understand why they opted 3g in the first place after so many years.
Thanks to both of you for having concerns but remember it’s India. Indian Govt. always talk big but never do what they talk So 3G delayed 10years 4G will be delayed at-least next 5years. Don’t talk about 4G handsets just think after so many years is your 2G mobile handset is giving you 5times battery power. It’s all business need if India starts 4G service handset makers will deliver handsets and modems within months.
I agree on the part that Indian govt has indeed delayed 3G allocation by many reasons, but in a way it will def. be good if TRAI starts thinking about 4G instead of 3G. I am not a telecom guy & don’t know what will be the infrastructure required for it, but will be good for the development of the whole country.
according to me main raeson behind delay in use of 3g is time difference between launching of 3g and 4g..
if we consider evolution 4g get launched very rapidly..3g had 2-3 sub parts and companies were planning to implement those but then LTE comes into existence and everyone have been waiting for 4G …
4G will be a blast in networking..using wireless will be easy .
Hello guys, Why no one is talking about 5G. It is coming in sooner then you could think of.
lol.. anil!
Indeed its too late for 3G now, thanks to the politicians and private telecom players. Let me know if you are launching 4G soon, I am planning to go for Vodaphone 3G if not 4G is not launched soon… lol!
For the first time in South Asia, Dialog Telekom and Mobitel tested and launched 4G in Sri Lanka on 6th May, 2011. Currently people can visit their arcades in Colombo to experience over 100Mbps bandwidth.
