MakeMyTrip Acquires TicketVala – Adds Further Strength To Bus Ticketing

MakeMyTrip which had earlier claimed to have the largest bus ticketing inventory has now increased that even more. Makemytrip has announced the acquisition of Ticketvala which is owned by Travis Internet Pvt Ltd.

This acquisition puts Makemytrip on the forefront on the bus ticketing business in India. The competition it faces is from the likes of Redbus which is a standalone bus ticketing player.

Ticketvala was in the news for having sales of over 1 million tickets way back in 2008 so it was certainly one of the top few players in the space. This acquisition points towards the non air business for OTA’s and its opportunity for the future.

Makemytrip is targetting revenues of Rs 2,500 crore in the financial year ending March 2010 as per the company. It will be interesting to see what percentage of the same comes from non air business.

nice trend to happen…but i think, the consolidation stage has started in the travel space. FLight tickets to hotels, then travel, then trains, and now bus tickets under the same umbrella. Any of these sites also offer taxi pick up and drop ?
