Updated: IPL-3 Cricket Live Streaming On YouTube – Signs Up For 2 Year Deal!

Updated: Google India tweets that this will be the first major sporting tournament to be streamed live on youtube platform. Youtube would showcase 60 matches over45 days. Its also stated that this is 2 year exclusive deal with Youtube for all IPL matches. The feed shown on youtube will be an exclusive feed not available at any other media platform including tv.

This is a first for Youtube and for Indian media on digital media in every which ways. This will set a benchmark for all the other media players as well to look at the digital medium as another distribution platform.

While Lalit Modi tweets about the IPL season III auctions, another news makes its way. BCCI join hands with Google India to telecast the the IPL season 3 live on YouTube. So, IPL fanatics can now heave a sigh of relief as they can watch the live streaming of all the matches online. The url to head to is http://www.youtube.com/ipl. Beginning in March this year, the Indian Premier League consisting of 59 matches through the 44-days journey would be all on the online video sharing site, Live!

With the auction bids steaming up, few Pakistani players and others will be involved majorly. The IPL-3 being considered one of the biggest domestic events in India, spells big for YouTube. This will also reduce the copyrights gaga among channels which is a usually the scene. International audience will also be involved since internet has already being playing a major role out here. Even advertisers would have a heavy viewership from this, as everything on the television sets will be now available on the internet as well.

Movies, and then music releases have already packed deals over the internet to decrease the copyrights’ hassle. This should disappoint channels at some extent, but again facilitate the IPL board of directors in their chase of ‘Value for Money.’ They’ll earn a killing even from the auctions, as in case of two teams bidding for the same player despite reaching the highest prize cap, it will lead to a tie-breaker. In the tie-breaker the team which will bid for the amount over that prize cap, shall own the player, but the extra money will go to IPL.

Sony Entertainment and the company that owns SET Max, airs IPL holds the satellite telecast rights, the global media rights are held by World Sports Group (WSG). They have expressed that BCCI cannot sell the new media rights to any other company.

The dedicated for IPL on YouTube was set up during the season 2 taking place in South Africa. But this channel only streamed highlights of matches along with the star studded opening and award ceremonies. What more can a user ask for, when there’s a complete win-win situation, for free?

Google’s YouTube shall gain from this move as it will attract more than 10.9 million unique visitors. According to me, television will still remain the core medium of viewership. But, as far as Lalit Modi’s future as a entertainment mastermind goes, he’s already acheiveing superficial milestones here. So much that, Percept Picture Company (PPC) have also appointed a team for script writers for completing the film based on the life of Lalit Modi. This movie will be called The Commisioner (tentative title) which was approved by the man himself in November last year.

2.Post GCV going bankrupt , the right fee was negotiated again and was brought down.

    3.GCV gets funded :0

4.BCCI and Youtube gets into an alliance to stream the matches live

How can BCCI enter into an alliance , when they’ve already sold the rights to somebody else?
