Today morning when I logged into my Facebook Account, I saw this new thing at the top of the News Feed on the main page titled as the “Automatic Friend Finder”. I was pretty impressed when I saw the word automatic as I thought, this would help me to find out more friends on Facebook (whom I haven’t added yet) with just a click.

A click? Well what a wonderful click it was, the so-called “Automatic Friend Finder” took me to the Friend Finder tool which asks you your email username and password so that Facebook can scan your contacts for (potential) Friend profiles on facebook. Oh… what a way to do that!
Now for the ones who do not know this, the Facebook Friend Finder tool has been there on Facebook for quite sometime now. The automatic friend finder has had mixed reactions from the user. All this is nothing but Facebook’s way of making sure you spend more time on Facebook with your friends and your ever growing news feed & the friend list. And yes this does get them new users who aren’t on facebook but are on your address book!

Whats the ‘LIES’ here?
The lie is in the way its presented as a new feature. When I saw it I also though wow this seems something new but then realized it was just a invite your friends from your gmail account kinda stuff.. Deceptive is what i might call it.
Actually there are a couple lies on the friend finder. The little ad on your homepage for the friend finder tells you that some of your friends have already used this feature before. Being curious, I actually asked a couple friends which the ad told me used friend finder. Most people I asked said they have never used the friend finder tool.
Additionally, some people claim that facebook keeps suggesting new contacts it could only have gathered from their e-mail contact lists. Those users have used the friend finder tool previously, but their claims make it seem as if the facebook friend finder actually keeps the e-mail account information so it can keep logging in to scan for new contacts.
It’s not so much about getting new people using their service as it is connecting people and forming extended profiles for every online presence which they can sell to whomever would like the information for whatever purpose. Even if you would rather not have them do that. Ironically, all the information they’re getting is from you and your friends
