TATA DoCoMo Launches Comic App For Mobile – DOCOMICS

It seems comics are becoming a serious business these days at least for telecom service providers as they gear up to innovate their comic offerings. TATA DoCoMo in partnership with NTT DOCOMO has launched Docomics , a comic viewer app for mobiles.

This new app will revolutionize comic consumption on mobile in India as subscribers will be able to view comics at a comfort. The viewer app allows users to download new comics at the same time view their collections frame-by-frame with simple clicks. TATA DoCoMo already provides moving images and vibration effect in sync with the action in the comic.

Tata DoCoMo earlier launched manga comics on its network whereas Airtel followed suit with similar comic service. Rediff was not too far behind as it tied-up with diamond comics, Cartoon Network also worked out a partnership deal with nazara technologies to launch its repository of cartoons on mobile.

The comic service charges subscribers Rs. 15 per chapter and will not entail any data charges in home network locations. The service charges are on higher side as amount is charged on per chapter basis rather then on consumption period. It has also added marvel comics to its fold.

Mobile operators are vying to get a higher pie of Mobile VAS market in India and are looking to significantly raise VAS revenues as part of total telecom revenues which currently stands at around 9-10%. This has resulted in Telco’s tying directly with content owners cutting down on middleman i.e. dedicated VAS players like Onmobile, One97.
