Music at reality shows is portrayed as the only medium that connects hearts, brings peace and solving global issues. This would be true if none of it was only meant to attract TRP for the channel. It also means that viewers love to watch a celebrity-studded show, hence as it looks new talent is not really given that platform to blossom. Now-a-days not just TV channels, but also digital media companies are using the word ‘music’ to sell their latest brands. For instance, recently launched ArtistAloud.com is meant to be a platform for unsigned artists raring to go in the music industry.

Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Private Ltd initiated this website where bands and individual artists can upload their music and share it with the world. This way individuals don’t have to try hard to make their music Bollywood-friendly all the time. ArtistAloud.com offers music lovers access to unreleased music, which they can sample, buy as well as share with the world. So much that they claim that this site would, help artists who have not been able get a commercial release for their original compositions, fight piracy. Since one can officially buy tracks on this platform, these artists don’t have to resort to free downloads.

“It is a first-time initiative in India and it is a great opportunity for us (artists) to portray our work without the influence of a director or a script,” said Sonali and Roopkumar Rathod, Well not quite true if you consider that few months back ibibo.com collaborated with Counter Culture Records to launch “The Rising Rock Stars of India” – an online platform that encourages fresh talent and emerging rock bands across India. There is also another platform in MyBand which seems to be gaining a lot of popularity with the sort of content they have encouraged on their site. We had covered Myband before here.

Our take on Hungama’s ArtistAloud.com
This is a natural extention as far as Hungama is concerned. They have already been associated with both Bollywood and music in a big way via their portals bollywoodhungama and hungama.com. They also have a music download service via hungama.com which could be very useful in monetizing the unknown artists platform that artistsaloud will be. One must also not forget the clout and reach Hungama currently has in the bollywood space via which it can rope in existing singers like Roopkumar Rathod and Abhijit Sawant on the platform as well to gain traction.
With regards to advertising advertisers might simply look at this portal as youth oriented platforms which may or may not work from a long term perspective.

“Sonali and Roopkumar Rathod, budding artists”- what was that ???
Do you mean to say Sonali and roopkumar are budding artists??
