Saint Nicholas might  be an inspiration to his modern day figure, but he surely is a classical example of generosity towards the poor. He makes a list of children throughout the world, categorizing them according to their behavior. If you’re still wondering what we’re talking about, then here’s your clue…. Ho Ho Ho… Merry Christmas. Season’s greeting everybody, from the entire WATBlog Squad.

Trivial Christmas Facts --

Coming back to the daily dose of news that keeps you updated while Christmas is around, did you know about Santa’s Christmas Eve flight being tracked? The tradition began in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement for children to call Santa misprinted the telephone number.

Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief’s operations “hotline.” The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born.

X’mas News --

Online shopping portals are looking to cash in on the Christmas eve as shoppers will flock the sites for some heavy duty shopping. Festivals have always been a boon for e-Commerce, and here’s the mother of all celebrations (globally). Major stores are braced for a sales bonanza with millions of bargain hunters expected to shop online on Christmas Day. Around 4.3 million people will go online over the festive period, spending £120million, according to trade body Internet Measurement Research Group (IMRG). Laptops, cameras and large-screen TVs will be the most popular to be purchased online.

He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time. So we once again wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May peace be your gift for this Christmas and the blessing of the Almighty be with you and the world to help us all make this world a better place. To make it a Christmas day everyday of the year.

Remembering the Past --

The New York Sun received a letter in 1897 -

Dear Editor,

I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says: “If you see it in The Sun it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus? The letter from Virginia O’Hanlon was replied by the newspaper’s senior editor Francis P Church. If you were the senior editor with The Sun, what would your reply to Little Virginia be? Send in your entries via comments and contribute to the celebrations!

The world will never see his kingdom bright.

  1. Part of the reason why online shopping portals are doing so well is because consumers are now beginning to accept this way of shopping. Secondly, online shopping is considered to be convenient. Lastly, retailers have done a great job of luring consumers into last minute promotions.
