Facebook Adds More Virality To Videos On Facebook Pages
Facebook’s popularity in Video streaming segment is for all to see as it has been able to hold its own against competitors like Youtube, Myspace. It is ranked the third most popular place to watch videos for netizens just a rank below youtube and hulu.
Facebook has now added a overlay button on page videos depicting “Become a Fan” badge. The badge is shown to users who are not already fan of those pages. The badge in the beginning shows just ‘fans’ but expands to “Become a Fan” on mouse-over. This will help Page owners to garner more conversions to their fan pages via their viral videos. Youtube already shows links to main video page on embedded media so as to increase conversions on channel subscription.

Till now the majority of Video action has been on Youtube as marketers preferred it to launch their viral videos leveraging high amount of users. Facebook has been more popular for personal videos than brand related videos. Although it is premature to say how much effect will it have on video content exclusively being launched on Facebook. This action will certainly see brands giving similar preference to Facebook .
So what makes social networks tick in Video Streaming?
The presence of social networking features adds stickiness and virility to videos thus increasing videos viewed per visit and the total play-time on site. Youtube in the past has tried to embrace social networking features on its site so as to increase stickiness on its video pages.
According to a Nielsen report: Time spent viewing video on social networking sites increased 98 % in greater proportion than the increase in streamed videos (+45%) on Social networks. Clearly signifying the increase in average playback time for visitors on these social networks.

Many sites like hulu supports streaming site’s content on their Facebook applications so as to serve growing social network population and increase the exposure to new users. Some Video portals even supports Facebook & Twitter connect to publicize their videos.
