Facebook Outshines Orkut In October – Traffic Up by 19%: Vizisense
ViziSense, an online traffic measurement service for Indian markets has released Traffic stats for October. The Data top-lines the growth registered by portals mostly frequented by Indian netizens.
All growth figures are based on M-o-M (Month-on-Month) stats.

Overall reach:
Google has 70 percent reach in the Indian market closely followed by Yahoo at 59%. Orkut registered 36.5% reach, YouTube – 26.1%, Rediff – 25%, Facebook – 24.8% and Microsoft – 22.5%.
Category-Wise Stats:
Social Networking:
Facebook was the major winner as it logged 19.35% increase in unique users to 10.2 million compared to an increase of just 4% in Orkut’s Traffic at 15.5 million. WATBlog has been keeping a close watch on Facebook’s growth in India.
LinkedIn too registered a 3.70% increase while at BharatStudent traffic was seen tumbling down by 6.92% at 2.42 million users. Ibibo recorded flat growth.
This clearly implies the major action is still amongst International social portals rather than regional players making a serious mark.
Search:
Google has seen a growth of 5.88% at 34.2 million unique users whereas Bing’s traffic surged by 22% at 5.46 million. Yahoo’s search traffic declined marginally at 8.12 million unique users.
This certainly means good news for Microsoft as it is gaining foothold not just in U.S. market but also in the Indian search market.
Email:
All the email portals are shining with increase in traffic except In [ In.com from Web18 ] which saw its traffic declined by 11%. Windows Live mail was the prominent gainer at 22% growth compared to 7.4% of Gmail.
Job Search:
Naukri registered a growth of 5.82% while Monster’s traffic surged by 14.44 percent. Late entrants like TimesJobs and Shine.com saw flat-to-negative growth in traffic.
Big job portals again turning to be preferred destination for job hunters in India.
eCommerce:
Ebay could register only a slight increase in Traffic but BookMyShow registered a impressive growth of almost 45 percent. Rediff Shopping also logged 26.64 per cent increase.
It is also to be noted that property portals like Makaan, 99Acres logged gains in range of double digit along with few classified and online travel portals.
Note: These stats are collected by measuring samples from a limited number of audience by applying prediction algorithms.

The growth facebook experienced just about closed the gap between
Orkut with the 10.2 million uniques versus Orkut’s 15.5 million.
BookMyShow’s growth certainly is impressive as 45%+ seems to take the cake in terms of increase in online traffic out of all reported.
Keep up the good work.
Your post says ‘Bing is gaining ground’ which seems misleading. your own stats show Google has gained 200,000 users per month while Bing has gained only 100,000.
