October Telecom Stats: Subscriber Base At 52.56 Crores, Telecom Density Reaches 44.87 Percent
TRAI has released the telecom stats for the month of October. The figure clearly points at increasing demand for telecom services in the country. The growth is largely witnessed in wireless services unmatched in other segments thus boosting the total tele-density in the country.

Total Subscriber Base & Tele-density:
The total subscriber base for all telephony services in India reached 525.65 Million at the end of October recording 3.26% growth compared to September. Indian telecom sector surpassed 500 million mark somewhere in September and is still showing no signs of any slow down. The tele-density is recorded at 44.87 per cent.
Segmented Figures:
Wireless:
Wireless subscriber base (including GSM and CDMA) was seen at 488.40 Million an increase of 16.67 million from 471.73 million in September. Wireless density stands at 41.69 per cent.
In October, Tata Teleservices saw the highest net additions of 3.87 million new users, followed by Vodafone at 2.98 million. Bharti Airtel added 2.7 million users whereas Aircel added 2 million subscribers.

Telecom Operator Wise Net additions in October-2009 (Per cent wise) :
Wireline:
Wireline (fixed line telephony) subscriber base declined from 37.31 Million in September-09 to 37.25. PSU telecom operators i.e BSNL & MTNL controlled 85.46% of total wire-line market.
However, it is interesting to note that wire-line base has seen a yearly rise of 5.3 per cent in metro circles largely due to bundled broadband schemes provided by Airtel, Reliance and Tata Indicom.
Broadband:
Total broadband users increased by 2.49% from 7.22 million in September to 7.40 million in October. Although the growth rate is similar to wireless segment but not so encouraging looking at small base for Internet services.
Future Estimation
Total wireless subscriber base is estimated to reach 876 million by 2013. The mobile subscriber base targets seems well set to achieve considering the new tariff models being introduced in Market but the figures for 3G subscriber base seems highly exaggerated.
