Microsoft has launched social networking features on XBOX Live allowing users to multi-task their playing along with social interactions. Microsoft perhaps feels that Facebook & Twitter syndrome could easily help it to win console war.

Subscriber of XBOX Live services will now be able to update their status on Facebook & Twitter regarding content they are playing on their Xbox 360 consoles. Users are also allowed to view their friends stream, photos and profiles. Gamers will also be able to upload their in-game photos on to social networks.

According to Jaspreet Bindra, Entertainment and Devices Division, Microsoft India, “Since the time of the launch of Xbox 360 and XBOX Live, we have always heard our customers and continuously worked to enhance their interactive entertainment experience. The addition of Facebook and Twitter brings an altogether different level of excitement and action for 20 million XBOX LIVE users across the globe.”

To make social networking service more viral Microsoft has added a friend finder tool which allows users to search their contacts on social networks who are also on XBOX Live. Facebook & Twitter altogether has more than 400 million users.

WATBlog earlier reported the likely introduction of social networks on XBOX around this time of year. We also reported about endless possibilities for social interactions through services like photo-sharing, constant updates, supplemented with additions like in-game-screenshots, text and voice updates. We now expect Microsoft to extend support for more social networks in future.

The introduction of social networks will allow Microsoft to provide a value addition to its console customers. This also comes at a time when social gaming is becoming de-facto standard on the web and will also raise the bar for other console makers to join the social networking bandwagon.
