Google Sites Out With A Bang – Additional Templates Take On SharePoint Server
If you hate reports on website hosting or if you’re one of those anti-Google souls, I guess today is not a very gratifying day for you at WATBlog. Not even 24 hours since we published about WebsiteForever.com hosting sites for Airtel, Google comes up with another revolutionary service for their the web world to endure. Google Sites launches templates and makes customisation easy for users, some of which we’ve seen this morning.

“Personal templates are also available, including family sites, weddings, neighborhood associations, clubs, charitable causes, and other interests,” said Scott Johnston, Google Sites product manager. Google Sites like any other website hosting site allows individuals and businesses to create their own website, but unlike AirtelWebBuilder it costs nothing! The categories are moreover are of the similar range of classes available with the latter, but much effective than a piffling service worth Rs 250.
Well definitely, their competition is not with Airtel, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server seems more likely to be the main competition. As a part of the Google Apps suite, the additional templates are available to both free and paid users. Google Sites and Microsoft SharePoint are similar to a great extent, but also widely divergent according to customer requirements. SharePoint is a Microsoft collaboration technology that has been criticized as too clumsy for the needs of many potential customers.

The templates include entire collaborative workspaces, employee intranets, project tracking sites, team sites, and employee profile pages. Each template is comprised of between 15 and 20 pre-populated pages, including sample content, embedded gadget, page layouts, navigation links, and themes. The templates can be modified, up to a point, using Google Sites’ built-in editing tools. So, time will decide whom to glorify and where to make a a room for improvement!
