WATFive: Google ‘Go’, Social Stats, AMD Combo Processor, Apptabs & Splurb

1. Google Launches its own programming language – named ‘Go’

Its been a long time since we are hearing rumors regarding Google OS although it indeed announced plans for Chrome OS but it was no where near to humongous amount of data(codes) churning from its factory. So what does Google decide to do – It launches its own programming language named ‘Go’.

Google has become sort of code repository due to its open support lent to many open source programmes. It has also invented many in-house languages to decipher tricky code languages into simpler versions increasing throughput for many of its services. Google through this public introduction of programming language wants to revolutionize the system oriented languages to make it more easy to understand and develop apps.

If this language gets adopted by developers then it would be a big victory for Google in its plan to stake claim on operating system arena. This certainly poses challenge to Microsoft as this sort of initiatives could hinder its monopoly for OS in years to come.

2. 25-40% of People Follow Brands on Social Sites

Now-a-days any data on social media interests marketers as reach of social media is sprawling across nations at the same time little is known about the formula to succeed in this space. Digital marketing company Razorfish made public a data of its ‘FEED Annual Survey’ where its studies how technology is changing the way consumers engage with brands.

The major findings point towards buoyant outlook seen for brands on social networks. Around 40% of respondents agreed to follow brands on Facebook, while 25% said they follow brands on Twitter. On Twitter nearly 44 % respondents said they follow brands for Exclusive deals while 37 % follow brands for same reason on Facebook & Myspace.

The survey also revealed that Majority of social media users are also owners of Smartphones. The other most important reason for joining a brand is either they are customers or want some entertaining content from the brand’s social profile.

The data is for U.S market only and represents a very small portion of users but could signal marketers to push out bigger brands onto the social bandwagon.

3. AMD to ship Combo – Graphics & Processor Chip by 2011

The talk surrounding processor chips in recent past has largely been associated with multiple core assembling and less heating issues thus ignoring the other feature addition on to chips. If AMD had their way then next big thing for processors would be to provide combo performance in a single chip.

AMD has said that ‘Fusion’ range of processors would be available for mass production by 2011 burgeoning hopes for PC enthusiasts as the similar move would be matched by Intel too. AMD long way back acquired ATI and this integration was long expected but would finally see the light in few years time.

This fusion of multiple performances will auger well for low gaming enthusiasts as they would be able to harness better graphics power at the same price. Intel will surely revert back as it can’t let AMD get away with a USP attached only to its line of processors. Lets just hope the Chip battle shifts for such combo processors, dolling more value for money processors.

4. AppTabs : Create Permanent Tabs with Only Icons on Firefox

Lets confess it most of the time we keep Gmail or some other tab opened .Sometimes those tabs are lost in unending list of opened tabs or closed down mistakenly. Apptabs allows us to secure an opened tab from closing down permanently. Apptabs is a firefox only addon ,a perfect replacement of earlier used Permatabs and Faviconize.

First install the Add-on in Firefox ,hold ctrl key while clicking the tab this will reduce the tab to a smaller icon and would also mark it permanent. This is a great replacement to creating standalone desktop app for web sites in firefox.
