Google is a company that loves to be in the news. Or maybe, the news just reports everything it does. In any case, quickly following the takeover of AdMob and the acquisition of Gizmo5, it’s here again.

Video Conferencing?

Rishi Chandra (a Google Apps product manager) revealed that the company is soon planning to roll out their first set of updates to Google Apps which will include the multi user video conferencing. ‘Apps’ is an online communication and collaboration suite that Google offers as a solution to schools and businesses.

So unless you are part of an enterprise that uses Google Apps you are unlikely to have the opportunity to take a bite of this cherry, yet!

One would argue that ever since it released Video Chat capability late last year, this always seemed like the logical next step. What is interesting that Google had started looking for ‘skilled and innovative Senior Video Conference Engineers’ as far back as 2005. See Here
The 2007 acquisition of Web and Video conferencing software from Swedish based company Marratech, indicated that it was only a matter of time before they came out with a Video Conferencing feature.

This also puts adds an interesting dimension to Google’s recent buy out of Gizmo5.
Google Talk, Google Voice with a PSTN link along with Video Conferencing could be a killer combination.

For a company that relies heavily on advertising. A multi user platform with a captive audience such as this, will probably have the advertisers queuing up (even more).
