Google Analytics has been improving the analytics feature to provide more detail info regarding traffic. It promised few weeks ago that it would be launching ‘Intelligence Engine’ to keep webmasters more tuned about the traffic data.

Intelligence Engine provides automated custom alerts to webmaster regarding the changes in traffic patterns. The traffic pattern to be monitored could be modified through dashboard. The triggering of reports could be made daily, weekly or monthly.

Google Analytics provides a lot of in-depth data regarding traffic but it still needs a simplified dashboard for webmasters to dissect important traffic information rather than going through customization reports and filters. The need for simplification has led many webmasters in adopting analytics’ alternatives like Clicky and Trendly (traffic email alerts service) due to their simplified level of reporting.

How to use ‘Intelligence Engine’?

Log on to Analytics dashboard.

In the left menu bar click ‘Intelligence’ with a beta label. Then, click on ‘Create a Custom alert’. (You can click on scroll down button to select between different time-frame alerts.)

Configure the custom alert either on the basis of metrics (numerical) or dimension (demographic info). While creating alerts do check ‘email me when this alert is triggered’

Note: The feature also allows you to share your custom alerts form with others. The triggered alerts could also be viewed in a timeframe.

What’s the difference between earlier alerts and Intelligence alerts?

Google Analytics earlier provided email alerts for ‘custom reports’ which where filled in with every detail. This Intelligence alert can now email you regarding particular parameters like ‘Increase or decrease in bounce rates, goals completed and traffic move from referring sites’.

Intelligence alerts could be useful even while scrolling through data in dashboard as webmaster can look at their frequented stats with trends and also stay in touch through emails.

  1. Its gonna help webmasters for sure in all their analysis and tracking their portfolio..

  2. Thanks for mentioning Trendly. If you’ve used both Trendly and Google Analytics Intelligence on the same site, I’d be very interested in hearing your thoughts on how they compare.

  3. Sorry …. I haven’t used trendly extensively cos it is a paid service.
