Gillian Muessig, President of SEOmoz.org which is a world renowned search engine optimization blog and also a search marketing and optimization firm was in India for a trip across Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore to meet SEO folks and find partners in India.

SEOMoz is one of the few VC Funded SEO blog and firms in the US and they raised 1.25 million dollars way back in 2007.

We caught up with her in Bangalore and asked her some questions:

What brings you to India?

Fair amount of traffic to the SEOMoz blog comes from India.Seomoz has never come to India to connect with these readers of our blog. Hence Im here to meet the seo community in India and learn about the issues that Indian SEO’s face.

What is your impression of Indian SEO Market?

I find that in the Indian market Search marketing is strongly focussed on paid search i.e. SEM but my belief is that this will change in the next 24-36 months.

Also Ive found that social media is very effective in India as the local communities love to talk and interact with each other here more than in the west.

Does Seomoz offer SMO? How is SMO vs SEO?

Yes we do offer SMO but only consulting. We do not deploy the plan into execution. SMO is growing rapidly but can be deployed effectively more locally than globally.

What kind of partners are you looking in India?

I’m looking for informal partners whose work we can be confident of and can recommend them to clients who come to us asking for India centric services.

How can a blogger grow is blog and provide consulting services?

The key for any blogger is to create extra ordinary value in your content. Get a specific audience to read your blog and to get recommended as an expert on specific issues. Once that happens then the  old and new media shall bring you opportunities.

How can someone get in touch with you?

SEO firms can get in touch with me on gillian(at)seomoz(dot)org and I can also be found on twitter on @seomom.
