Rediff Takes Minority Stake In Imere – A Location Based Startup
Over the last year or so Rediff has been in the news for investing in several mobile centric startups. We have covered their investment in Tachyon Tech, Eterno Infotech and Vakow as well.
So this is apparently rediff’s 4th investment in a mobile centric startup in about last 2 years. Rediff has invested in Imere Technologies, a Bangalore-based company which provides location-awareness to applications online and on mobile. Imere’s technologies work without the need for GPS on mobile phones.
Ajit Balakrishnan, chairman and CEO, Rediff.com has earlier expressed his interest in the mobile space in India and also the need for investments to be made in startups.
On the occassion of the investment Ajit Balakrishnan said, “Location-awareness in applications is critical for hyper-local search and local advertising besides many evolving social networking and enterprise applications. Imere’s technology is very cost effective in delivering location awareness.”
