BigFlix the dvd rentals and video on demand site from the Reliance Entertainment stable has struck a deal with International video site Hulu.com to bring Bollywood movies to Hulu. Internationally Hulu offers hit TV shows, movies and clips at Hulu.com but most of the content is US centric but this wont be the first time Hulu has looked to tie up with a bollywood centric content provider.
Even earlier hulu tied up with Saavn and at that time the deal included 5 titles. We dont have information on whether that deal is over but from the looks of it we can say that Bigflix seems to be the new partner for Hulu when it comes to bollywood content.
This tie up will be a good way for Bigflix to reach out to the international market targeting the South Asian population and non-NRIs. Given its video on demand service this audience is the prime target audience who actually pays for video on demand.
This association will start by offering 12 Bollywood movies which will have English subtitles so it appeals to others besides South Asians.
It seems like Bigflix has figured out that the market for video on demand lies out of India and this move to tie up with hulu is a step to get closer to that audience.
