Guy spoke about a range of topics. His morning take was on entrepreneurship and the following slides are the ones he presented:

Later in the day he also spoke about Twitter as a tool for marketing and how he uses it. Here are some excerpts on his talk on twitter.

Guy’s Marketing tactics using twitter

Guys stated that he uses twitter as a pureplay marketing tool. His objective is to gain as many followers as possible and then to tweet interesting stories to attract more followers. He also pointed out that much like TV where there is value to repeat ads even on twitter there is value to repeated tweets.

He explained how each of his tweets are resent every 8 hour i.e. the same tweet is tweeted 3 times a day but with different unique text. He supported this strategy with statistics. He pointed out that the first time he tweets something it gets him 700 page views, second time 500 page views and third time 400 page views.

His basis for the 3 times tweeting the same link or story a day is that not all people are on twitter all 24 hours and hence each time the story is tweeted there is a possibility it would get new visitors.

Guy’s Take on Bots on twitter

Guy said that he had no problem with twitter being used as a marketing tool and infact sometimes bots were more interesting to follow than actual people on twitter.

How many people tweet for Guy Kawasaki

Guy also disclosed that he has employed about 3 people to find interesting stuff and tweet on his behalf. He too spends most of his time on twitter each day.

Would Guy have funded twitter when it started?

Guy stated that he wouldn’t have funded twitter at all and would have compared it to sms and Instant messaging and asked the founders why would people tweet?

What is Twitter according to Guy?

Twitter according to Guy is just a platform much like email and one can use it to communicate anything that one pleases to do.

All in all the first day on Nasscom Product Conclave was dominated by Guy’s presence and his thoughts on entrepreneurship and twitter.
