Just a few hours ago we reported on Naukri’s quarterly results and blogged about how they need to rethink their model and add social features to their site inorder to appeal to the growing social nature of the web today vs that of ten years ago.

Well it seems as I said it Timesjobs had already rolled out a similar feature called Globalconnect. Globalconnect allows you to add various social media tools and information alongwith your resume. It covers tools right from all IM (instant messenger) clients to your professional profile on wordpress and blogger i.e. your blog or on linkedin or the times group owned peerpower. It also allows you to put in your work i.e. your presentations and videos as well via youtube and slideshare integration.
Another heartening shift that I really liked was the use of slideshare to showcase their new feature. Check their presentation here. This just shows that they are not only adding these features but also using it themselves. Full marks for not being toucy on the fact that none of these services are Times group driven. Traditionally the mentality of traffic going out of one’s site has been a very touchy issue and its good too see Timesjobs breaking that traditional mindset.
Why is this a next level in online recruitment?
Let me start by saying Im not a big fan of Timesjobs. I think their full website roadblocks on indiatimes are at the very least irritating (and at the very best a crime!). But they have done some good (as well as smart) marketing initiatives like the award winning browse and upload your resumer banner and also this one which never saw mass uptake. They have been famous for taking digs at competition too with such campaigns.
But Id want to add that with this new feature they have hit the nail on the head! This is the next level when it comes to a social media resume. This is a much needed feature and I will not be a wee bit surprised if Naukri does a ‘me too’ on this feature and launches its version very soon.

Agree, this is quite a shift from the traditional paradigms that Indian sites swear by. Most sites backed by ‘biggies’ often end up competing and building their own versions of social media sites rather than embrace and use them. Glad they didn’t decide to build a SlideShare clone, wouldn’t have been surprising if they did!
