Google Launches A New Product: Social Search
You can always expect great things out of a Web 2.0 Summit, and it looks as if this one was the mother of all. We have already covered in details the exclusive deals between search engines Google and Bing to index real time results from Twitter and Facebook to display on their platform. Google will only be indexing Twitter though.
But one more announcement which seems to be dying down because of the noise is the arrival of a new Google Labs product: Social Search.

Marissa Mayer, Google’s VP of Search announced this during her talk in the summit. The product aims at importing news and feeds from your various social profiles into one place. It will allow you to search for queries from people in your social network. And obviously, this works using the still not very popular Google Profiles service.
If you fill it out with the social networks you have a presence on, Google will scan your network and give you results from those people. It will also be able to show rich media like news, images and videos. The results will be displayed at the bottom of the search results. So I guess this depends on your online connections, the more you are connected, the more results you will see. (You would also need to be signed in to Google)
The product will be launched in Google Labs in the next two weeks. Also, one downside which I can see from here is the fact that such a result would only work for networks that have an open search API, which rules out Facebook. The experiment would be opt-in and you would be asked before your Google Profile is indexed.
With Twitter also being included in Google results now (also BING), the internet has taken one more step towards becoming truly social, a huge mesh of interconnected websites, sharing and harnessing the data flowing around in data cables.

Nice post. Actually the new search battle may not be between bing and google. It very well might be between google and facebook. With the entire web getting more social search will also get more social and people centric. Google definitely views facebook as its major rival and vice versa.Whereas facebook has the advantage of having this user data, google definitely wants to strike first. The problem with google is that their data is scattered over a lot of places and not all of it is social. the google profiles was an utter failure. But google being google they hopefully will come up with something good.
Since its being done by Google it should blow away the current existing sites that try to do the same thing, normally with iframes…
Google, MSN, live is giving this kind of option in diff. format from so many times but none of them has achieved remarkable success as of now.. Yahoo is trying to complete his product portfolio by offering such a type of product from the day of inspection of Internet but he has not received any success as of now…. In fact we can say all companies who are on the edge of bell shape curve in utilization of his resources are doing good for nothings because these kind of efforts are giving very slightly improvement in their business.. do you s think people will say wow ! by getting this kind of products…. it’s not possible with any things which is available in this word, for e.g. we have got so many things from nature to eat but we are using very few of them but it doesn’t mean nature is not perfect..Nature is 100% perfect and everyone in this world is enjoying it.. so I think a company who wanted to lead internet industry need to work on basic first apart from doing such a non noticeable exercise. ..
These days Internet Industry is seeking for a new revaluation.. The kind of revaluation which was bring by hotmail in e-mailing business… Like companies can give free internet usages under their umbrella name where they can show advertisement, in fact the way ISP are cutting down their prices to get the privileges in the Industry Company can pay the same from their pocket and can increase their advertising rate so that company’s browser will became internet for the internet users (for e.g. Positioning of internet = IE, Chrome). I think at saturation level these kinds of bold steps are always successful instead of wasting shareholders valuable money in such a waste full exercise. We have life example Yahoo has shut down so many products like Documents and all because he is not able to monitories them in a proper manner. If still they will start doing these kind of work a day people will say them bye…. No one from us can tell us the exact reason behind success of google or failure of yahoo search..or why Microsoft is still able to touch google success in search business..
If I summarized it I can say from the day one internet is ruled by consumers and consumer is giving the privilege to those products which is new and keep giving some things new on daily bases, so if the companies wanted to in cash this they have to do take such a steps which has some things have more new then any other player.
I know for many of the people it looks like a joke but it’s not impractical things but a sound preparation is required here to meet the ROI and can monitories it properly.
I don’t think that this will get much use. If your friends have a social life on MySpce, Twitter, or Facebook, chances are…you are too which means all you have to do is look at their profiles to see what is new in their life. I think most people will bypass this.
Google try to find better stuff to bring out rather then the social crap. Try bringing out better new searches from around the world…something like a drudgereport type of place. Try to bring more apps regarding hobbies, or clubs. Offer free web hosting for non-profit with the ability to create a dynamic site for them to simply drag and drop pictures, news articles and things like that.
