Just a few hours ago we reported that Microsoft is soon to announce a deal with both Facebook and twitter to include their search updates within search results for Bing. It seems google has followed the move in just a matter of hours and Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience has posted a post on the official Google blog announcing the agreement with twitter to include its updates in Google’s search results.
Marrisa also spoke about search being improved by the inclusion of tweets. She stated “we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months”. She also gave an example of how tweets would make search better ” next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information”
The above does point to a Microsoft Vs Google War on Real Time Search! Real Time Search as we mentioned in our last post hasn’t been conquered by anyone and most certainly looks like the next level of search the world over.
Twitter seems to benefit the most
With both these announcements coming back to back the player that will benefit the most is twitter. Just imagine even without being indexed in search results for its content twitter is gaining huge popularity the world over. Now if both Google and Bing index and showcase twitter results then it would have a sizable impact on twitter’s growth. Facebook on the other hand due to its closed nature cannot make all its status updates open and thus the data thats publicly available for facebook will be far lesser than twitter. Also Google doesn’t look like its too interested in indexing facebook status updates. In effect this two deals by Microsoft and Google will end up benefitting twitter the most. Do I hear someone saying.. Twitter is the next facebook?

“how tweets can make search better in the coming months”
Tweets are not a bad idea for Google to fine tube its results internallly and to determine the hotness of news items (which I am sure they are already doing) but the last thing a searcher need is top 3 results occupied by a yahoo answer, digg link and twitter link! (results with very little content and value)
It will be interesting to see how Twitter will handle spam though once people realizes google is indeed giving weight to tweets.
And No, twitter is not the next facebook though they do have excellent PR management team i guess
i dont think Twitter is even trying to be the next facebook Rajiv
An insightful post otherwise .. liked it
My comment was more in terms of number of users.. Facebook is fairly larger than twitter in number of users
