Online gaming is a big market. An estimate pegs the market at $10 Billion and expects it to touch $15 Billion by 2012. These games which are mostly free are fun and addictive. 7Seas is a major player in this business and their page puts the statistics for a wide range of demography. More than 70% of the players are in the range of 17 to 35 years of age. This is the population that represents the vibrant consumer who is ready to spend. With everybody trying to woo the customers in this festive season, these online gaming companies are not far behind.

online diwali games

7Seas Technologies has released a game called ‘Diwali Dhamaka’. This game is available in 3 different languages. It has six stages which includes lighting the lamps in OM pattern, and also a quiz on the safety measures and the distance to be maintained before lighting crackers.

Maruti Sanker, managing director of 7Seas Technologies, explains that, “broad idea behind launching this online Diwali game is to ignite our revenues and create more visibility for our gaming portal onlinerealgames.com in a short span through such topical themes. Being a free game, gamers in other countries too can play this game just to know more about the second biggest festival of India. We hope to garner over a million game plays and revenues of Rs 5 lakh from this game in the next one week.”

Sify.com also has a game for the Diwali season. It’s named ‘Diwali Rockets’. The idea is to light up as many rockets as possible. The rockets are thrown in air, and they need to be lighted before they fall down. Four dropped rockets and the game is over.

AOL India has two games and trivia for Diwali. The game revolves around the different types of crackers and bursting them. It has a neat plus and minus sign to increase/ decrease the size of the crackers.

Indiarocks has a game that is also named as the ‘Diwali Dhamaka’. It’s a game of tetris that has some crackers attached to some of the falling blocks. These attached crackers change the rules of the game and this change makes it much more interesting.

Zapak has a game called ‘Rocket mania’, which involves connecting the fuses to connect the fire to the rocket to fire.

gaming

These companies spend sometimes among 3-4 lakhs per game. Do they expect to recover all of it from one game? Mr Alok Kejriwal, the CEO of Games2Win says “Last year, our Diwali games were played just under 1 million. This time, we are going for 2 million plays. Honestly, we will not recover money from these games. But it just becomes a new offering and hence enhances our overall visibility”. This visibility enables them to charge higher from their advertisers. Advertisements range from banner ads to in game ads. Bigger companies like the Reliance Big Entertainments’ Zapak.com expect revenue of around Rs. 4Lakh from each of their games.

The themes range from very mythological to the safety measures to be followed. The only thing common is, almost all the online gaming companies are coming out with games for the festive season. These colours and sounds are surely lighting up the festive atmosphere.

Have you played them yet?
