This Diwali the internet will play a major role in the upliftment of the zest, which is by far the most awaited festival among all Indians, at home or abroad. The most beautiful thing about this is that families come together and greetings come in unique packages. Some order a gift which gets delivered at the person’s doorstep you wish to send, while some some use their so called ‘mobile phone’ to send cheeky forwards. I am not saying that the traditional means of greeting are forgotten completely, but with newer, better and more eye-opening ways the Diwali becomes tastier, doesn’t it? Sort of like a tinge of lemon to your favourite Mughlai Dish! That’s where, E-greetings come in the glare.

We recently cited the PayPal Survey Report showing a boom in the e-commerce market this Diwali season. Reasons being seemingly honest, some people would shop online to avoid the crowds in the stores, some would do so since they find a wider range of products available online, while others think that shopping online saves them time. E-greetings by various sites help users send their choice of video, Flash Player greeting, e-cards, virtual gifts and so on. That’s a cheaper and easier way of reminding your loved ones that you did wish them a Happy Diwali although you couldn’t personally visit them.

Recently in news, IndiaVideo.org have started this new flair of sending your greetings without any hassle. Just choose your favourite video from the range of Diwali Greeting Videos, suitable for the person at the receiver’s end. IndiaVideo is being exhibited as the encyclopedia of all the cultural videos from India. Their array of videos include pictures from almost all Indian States and Union Territories. Videos on places and events of historical importance, colourful festivals and celebrations from different parts of the country, tourist attractions and wildlife are included too. They even have their own YouTube Channel. One unique feature is that they have pictures from topics like Ayurveda, Yoga and Indian cuisine. In association with UNESCO, Invis Multimedia currently runs IndiaVideo.org keeping the cultural aura of India alive.

At WATBlog we’ve looked at another greeting player expanding its market share by taking their greetings from web to mobile, 123greetings.com. They’ve been creating content from handset wallpapers to ringtones for incursion among the mobile users at the same time capitalizing on the internet penetration in India. So much, that they also thought of starting wireless applications so that its e-greetings could be downloaded on JAVA and GPRS-enabled mobile handsets. Intel Capital had invested in 123greeting.com. Though the amount of funding was not disclosed, it has been termed as an A series funding which means anywhere between $1-10 million could be the actual funding. The funding was intended to be used for growth in India as well as in the Global market.

In a country like India, which is known for it’s radiated festivals. The best part is, we have some festival or the other coming through almost every alternate day. E-greetings is one of those markets that can never die in India. User-generated content gives the platform more credibility and creates more room for success. Other competitors include IndiaTimes, ecard4all, etc. Take a look at one of these e-greetings which I personally found very thoughful – Phusss Without You!
