Recently the Directorate of Rice Research (DRR) has announced to launch a rice knowledge management portal for the betterment of the Indian farmers involved in the rice cultivation.
Rice being one of the staple diets of Indians, it becomes very important to nurture the occupation closely. Although the crop calendar under the ‘For Farmers’ option has this page displayed!
The National Agricultural Innovation Programme (NAIP) has initiated this portal mainly to tone up the research, extension, farmers, private sub-systems, and networks. It will consist of digital content in regional languages as well. To cater to different stakeholders, the portal will have various constituents namely; Research Information System, Extension Information System and Virtual Platform for Distance Learning. Stakeholders will have regular updates which will strengthen the links between various rice stakeholders.
“We hope that the constant flow of information would contribute to the overall rice development in the country,” Dr B.C. Viraktamath, Project Director of DRR, said at an NAIP information flow meeting held at Rajendranagar.
Even crops finding a place online, shouldn’t be surprising at all.
