Don’t search for the correct definition – What is a Smart Phone? It does not exist. All I can tell you is that it is a mobile device which offers advanced features similar to that of a PC, termed “PC Mobile Handset Convergence“. In other words, a SmartPhone runs on an OS software providing a standardized interface and platform for application developers. For newbies, which I doubt anyone is today, a SmartPhone can simply be called a phone having advanced features like e-mail, Internet and e-book reader capabilities, and/or a built-in full keyboard or external USB keyboard and VGA connector.
The most fascinating thing about SmartPhones is the way they work, and remember in today’s world it is not the simple that sells. Things what make a product sell is its future usability and the complexity in the product. Classy people like Complex products. Bet me on that!!
And, that’s how you have companies already posing a threat to Apple, is the manner in whichApple iPhone is a success. I somehow like this particular ideology about the arrogance of this company – Apple. It cares a damn about what you think and is so arrogantly focused on providing the best technology; like if it cares only about the “Early Adopters”. Slowly, the bandwagon joins in and then makes it a Product that others want to duplicate.
The SmartPhone market has emerged as a major battleground which engulfs a plethora of technology variant businesses. Contrary to normal perception, it is one of the few markets experiencing rapid growth in a recessionary environment. The challenge to the Apple iPhone has begun. And, the competitors here are Google Inc, Microsoft Corp and Palm Inc which have stepped up efforts to improvise their smartphone line-ups.
Just read on to the following comments -
Avian Securities analyst Matthew Thornton said, “Everyone wants to build up and bolster their smartphone portfolio, because that’s what drives more dollars for the carrier and that’s where the market is going” .
CL King analyst Lawrence Harris commented, “It may not be reflected in the numbers, but everyone is playing catch-up with Apple“.
Verizon’s McAdam, referred to Google Voice and stated, “You either have an open device or not. This will be open and we expect to bring that application to market when we bring the first device out” on the launch of Verizon Wireless supporting the Google Voice software app, allowing consumers to make low-priced ISD calls, which is yet to be proven by Apple.
The Analysis -
The SmartPhone race will be of utmost benefit to the consumer. Why? Because, with the rapid build up in the battle, we can expect more SmartPhones in the market, at cheaper prices, with better technological comparisons and enhanced features.
I tell you, The Race has just Begun. I dare not say here, Bollywood Style, “Happy is The End”.
Waiting for Times when “The Great Indian Middle Class” starts to become SMART by buying more SmartPhones.

Great post. Pretty interesting stuff with smartphones nowadays.
