Sify Telecasts Navratri, While Neilsen Report Finds Matrimonial Sites Top Advertisers


The Navratri colours are already all over the place. Garba fanatics simply can’t get enough from the nine evenings to frolic. The beautiful festival’s popularity seems pretty obvious to be seen online. Live videos from Falguni Pathak’s Concert and other such Dandiya Gigs, are flocking the web. Some news that you might want to know about Sify.com getting in the Garba groove. Rights to present Live telecasts of famous concerts during Navratri must be apparently very difficult. But somehow Sify.com have managed to get themselves some user-attention with this telecast. The Famous Tirumala Brahmotsavam will be showcased on their consumer portal until September 29. It is is one of the most important and auspicious functions in Tirupati which people across the world would want to watch. Mr Venkata Rao Mallineni, Head – Portals and Consumer Marketing, Sify Technologies, said, “Our endeavor is to bring to the online audience the latest events as and when they happen.” Or rather catching up with the latest events to get them more audience, eh?

On the other hand, a recent Neilsen report has announced that Indian Matrimonial sites are on top of the advertisers’ list. About 3,778 online display ad campaigns were released in India between June-August period of this year. 378 out of them were issued by the personal or matrimonial sites i.e., 13 per cent share. The Nielsen Online AdRelevance June-August 2009 report from The Nielsen Company, shared these numbers stating that matrimonial websites in the country have emerged as the biggest online advertisers. Next in the list comes the travel portals and educational sectors with 8 per cent share.

“This industry has the potential to give traditional forms of advertising a run for their money. Keeping tabs on ad spending and campaigns in this space is definitely going to help marketers plan their strategies accordingly,” said Karthik Nagarajan, associate director (online division), The Nielsen Company.

Consim report states that Times InternetYahoo and Sify were among the leading publishers for online display advertising in India. While according to the report, personal or matrimonial sector cover more than 50 per cent of the online activity in this sector with respect to number of campaigns.
