Saturday Startup Review II: ContentSyndicate – Syndicating The World’s Content!

This is part of an ongoing startup review series supported by our sponsors Sun Startup Essentials.

Startup: Contentsyndicate

Ever wondered how much content in text and pictures is created across all publishers large and small? Also how much money they spent in creating this content? Would they buy this content if it was cheaper to do so? Would a french tech newspaper buy and syndicate content from a niche Indian blog? Well this is what contentsyndicate is trying to achieve..

One sentence description: A Global Content Syndication Marketplace

About Startup: Contentsyndicate aims at providing on time, on budget and on demand content by building a platfom for content providers i.e. publications, blogs, agencies etc to those who might need this content. Hence they are in the business of providing a platform for buying and selling content that is news, feature articles, translation, brochures, journals, press releases, white papers, websites and marketing campaigns across platforms, media and languages.

About Founders: Contentsyndicate is founded by Maddy Reddy who has over 12 years of experience in senior editorial and managerial positions for leading media groups in Bangalore, Mumbai, London and Dubai.

Funding Status: Institutional venture funding of 1 million dollars from IV holdings

WAT’s HOT: This is a huge market. Imagine all the text and pictures in the world available on one platform to be bought or sold? Now that is something! This is what contentsyndicate is trying to do with its online platform. The way they charge is they take 30% of each transaction and pass on 70% to the buyer. In many ways what google adsense is to ads content syndicate wants to be to content. They already have about a million dollars in revenue and that is saying a lot given the fact that they are in closed beta right now.

WAT’s NOT: Challenges are many like reach/access to market. Trust factor – as larger publishers are not going to trust a new player with their content. Also on the product front they would need to provide an interface that global users can use.

Our Rating – 4 points out of 5

Do you really think companies and individuals would really pay for syndicated content with them as opposed to so many other media outlets that are already doing this? Plus their site is too dang hard to use. Too much copy… Too many questions for service sign ups etc. They need a lot clearer vision forthcoming on their site.Plus as you correctly mention the trust factor.
