We were attending IAMAI’s Digital convergence event at Welingkars on Saturday and Abhijit Saxena CEO of Netcore stated a statistic which baffled us. He stated that they had partnered with BJP during the recent elections and sent over 60 crore smses to people!
Wow 60 crore is huge by any standard!
Lets put the economics of this number into perspective:
60 crore smses at even 5 paisa per sms (which is about the lowest that operators charge for bulk sms) would mean 3 crore rupees in just sending out smses!
Now everyone knows that BJP lost these elections and we have also questioned earlier whether digital media was to blame for the same or no. Now with this statistic into picture one wonders whether it was the intrusive nature of sms that pissed people off to not vote for the BJP?
Whatever the reason. These last elections surely broke benchmarks as far as use of digital media is concerned and it remains to be seen how parties continue to use this medium in upcoming elections and also as tool to communicate to the people of India. Shashi Tharoor did say our Prime Minister was curious about twitter so lets wait and watch how this politics and digital media dialogue pans out!
PS: Rajesh Jain who is the founder of Netcore has openly supported BJP via his blog (check his coverage here)

“We was attending” ???
Thanks we stand corrected
nothing is blame BJP but themselves and their confusing ideology and in fighting
One of the reason that BJP dint win may be its Hindutava Agenda
now, I know why the business card of rajesh jain does not have his mobile number.
perhaps, he does not want to face the music of his own baby, netcore!
