“Twitter Damages While Facebook Repairs Memory” – Psychologists. How Much Do You Care?

Do you get jitters at night of having a short-term memory after you wake in the morning? Well, that would have been your worst nightmare then. In addition, there’s no real need to play a real life Leonard Shelby who suffers from Anterograde amnesia in the psychological thriller Memento (2000). Or even Ghajini for that matter.

Psychologists and memory researchers have brought a new twist in the tale of social networking sites. Twitter allegedly damages your working memory, while Facebook repairs the same. That’s an interesting task to deal with, isn’t it? Dr. Tracy Alloway, a psychologist from Stirling University has got a very strong opinion about the immense string of news and information including social gaga on Twitter. She considers it as a harassing curse to all. She said, “Some examples of what can hurt or harm working memory include things like Twitter. When you’re receiving an endless stream of information when you’re a ‘tweeter’, it’s also very succinct, so there’s no need to process or manipulate that information, it’s not a dialogue unlike something like Facebook where you might be updating your status and so on.” That’s not really worth winning a Nobel Prize quality, right.

While on the other hand memory researchers think that Facebook provides a good workout for your brain. Games like Sudoku and other memory games on Facebook helps you exercise the stress and enhance your intelligence. There’s also a possibility that Dr. Alloway’s research is incorrect and slightly off track. According to loyal Tweeters and Facebookers, both work as an interactive tool for conversing with a wide range of people. Minds that work likely and professionals looking for the same kind of information, might be in favour of Twitter. Whereas people who belive in updating status messages and also find them helpful are without any doubt sticking to Facebook. The war continues and if psychologists were right; memories are definitely going for a toss!

You might be proud of multi-tasking, but it is certainly doing some serious damage to the department upwards. That’s right, we’re talking about the the brain if short-term memory has already got to you.
