Startup: SutraJobs.com

Startups face a number of problems and besides for the lack of funding the other most common issue they face is that of lack of talent. This is because the bigger companies go to the campuses and hire the best talent and few startups have the kind of funds to hire the best folks. This is where the need for a specialist recruiter or a job site comes into picture. Sutrajobs is catering to this space.
One sentence description: Jobsite for startup hiring
About Startup: Sutrajobs.com is an online job portal focussed on providing a platform to opening in startup companies. The focus area seems to be tech, new media and digital advertising startups. The current job posting is free and I have personally also used Sutrajobs service and seen quite a few interesting resumes landing in my inbox.
About Founders: The product is owned by SutraHR which is a full fledged recruitment consulting firm for startups. The startup is founded by Waqar Azmi and supported and mentored by Morpheus Venture Partners.
Funding Status: Self Funded
WAT’s HOT: The space is big and Sutrajobs and SutraHR already boast of quite a few startups. Also the online offline combination is key as many startups dont know how to illustrate their requirements. These guys have also been active in this space for almost 2 years now which gives them a sort of a insider view on what kind of people startups require. Product wise they have recently launched a job widget known as quick sutra which bloggers and webmasters can use to showcase new startup jobs. They plan to launch a white branded widget soon as well.
WAT’s NOT: The key challenges is in monetization and scaling of the service both online and offline. Also startups would pay only if they see real value via the online portal and I dont feel a job posting model would work. Maybe Sutra needs to look at a yearly subscription and building a large pool of startup employees and founders etc who could be tapped to hire in upcoming companies. Currently sutrajobs lacks a major USP besides for its focus on startups. There are competitors like Zyoin as well which have joined the fray which makes this segment look even tougher than it is.
