Tata Teleservices has been on an agressive footing in the past few months. First, they made an aggressive foray into the GSM segment to launch Tata Docomo. They caught the imagination of the target audience with a revolutionary pay-as-you-use pricing scheme backed by a terrific marketing campaign.
Now, TTSL have gotten back to the drawing board to make Tata Indicom equally attractive. According to a new announcement, Tata Indicom subscribers will now only have to pay a flat Re.1 for every local call and a flat Rs.3 for every STD call. That is regardless of how long you talk.

A first look at this will make it look like an extremely bold and risky move. But do you think it will make TTSL bleed? In one word, NO.
Firstly, it does not cost telecom companies more if people are going to talk for a longer period. Operators work on fixed bandwidth, and with more people calling, you will have more of those “This network is busy. Try after sometime” messages. But it does not matter to the operator if the subscriber is going to speak for 5 minutes or 15!
Secondly, this is going to drastically raise the call-time only for as long as the novelty exists. Except for that call to your loved one, how many other people that you call can you afford to speak for longer than five or ten minutes? The average time per call should normalize in a few weeks.
I would reckon this as a pretty intelligent move from Tata Teleservices to market its CDMA offering. But considering that many more people are going to lap this offer up, get ready for the frequent network congestions now. It is to be seen how if any of the competitors shall follow suit. That would make the competition all the more exciting!

I don’t understand Why not anyone talking about the Limitation Tata Indicom is giving. they have clearly stated that the Puls would be for 600 Seconds. That means Rs 3 per call will last only 30 Paise. Which could be competed by other Networks. Also ther is a Daily Rental of Re1 Which Comes as Rs30/ Month. This Plan is applicable only if you purchase a New Handset.
Hands Down…..Personal Opinion is, I never Liked Tata Indicom. Sa but True.
The phrase “regardless of time” is wrong. Its Re. 1 and Rs. 3 for 600 seconds so basically they have increased the pulse time from a minute to 10 minutes.
Tata says this schemes is applicable only on purchase of new handsets, they have not mentioned how is that possible, I mean are there any specific handsets which can be purchased to avail this scheme?
Also they say that people who will use old handset or sim will be subjected to there Re. 1/min for local calls and Rs 1.5/min for std calls, Why would then one go for this scheme if base tariff will apply to old customers? Thats quite funny and confusing.
Ah..This has turned out to be more of a marketing gimmick rather than any sort of business strategy, then…Fine prints – I should decipher them better next time!
Thanks for the tip up, guys..
ahhh …
so where can i see the complete details of this plan by tata..?
just to check it out myself whether it is endless pulse rate or 600 sec pulse rate.. every journal is saying its the first way
@nikhil,

I think, Tata has not confirmed to buy a handset if u opt for this scheme. Since, the sim is to be used only on cdma handsets, u have to opt for a cdma handset, if u don’t have one. I am a tata customer from the past 5 years and their network is extremely good.
@Govardhan, My friend knows a Guy who is using this scheme in his old handset, though company says one will have to buy a new handset to get this scheme.
But I guess thats mistake on their part. As far as I know anybody can use this scheme and whether he buys a new handset or use the old one it doesnt matter.
This is wrong… you should not fool the people saying that
“no matter how long”, where you are giving only 10 min. This all
schemes introduced by other mobiles too.
