Govt Of India Joins The ‘Job Site’ Race

At a time when most of the youth in our country is facing a problem of employment which is scaled up with the recession, this initiative by the Government of India will win accolades. News here states that the GOI is creating a web portal which would consist of comprehensive details about the skilled manpower requirements of industry and the available skilled manpower in the country. Mr Harish Rawat, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, announced at the Global Skills Summit organized by FICCI, “Government has realized that it was time employment exchanges across the country were modernized“.

There were other announcements too; but, the one that struck my thought process was that it will in verity turn out to be a boon for the youth. With increase in competition between this proposed government portal and the private job search sites, it is the youth who would benefit with the most accurate and reliable info being provided. It would be unfair to comment on who would win the race, GOI or the private search portals, but, it is the youth who now have an advantage of utilizing this to the maximum advantage one can think of.

The GOI has not thought of anything unique. There have been initiatives such as this by the Australian government which have been widely appreciated in the past. The result of Australian government’s initiative is not known, but it can be fairly assumed that it meets the expectation of the people down there. CareerOne is another such website which has a tie-up with the Australian government and thus provides the necessary assistance in seeking some specific jobs in specific sectors.

Sure, searching for a job has never been this easy. Job sites, recruitment consultancies and now this GOI initiative are all aimed at the betterment of the youth. On the contrary, getting a job has indeed become difficult. There are macro issues involved here, which has been spoken and discussed at various forums before and no need to be discussed here. Let us hope this statement by Mr. Rawat clarifies the government’s intention, “The constraints of dissemination of information to both employers and job seekers would be overcome by the introduction of this e-Governance project“.

To critique an initiative is easy, but to appreciate it is a bit difficult, more so when this is proposed by GOI. The approach here for the youth should be to specialize in a particular skill set and then search a job relevant to the skill one possesses. This would not only create a nation of skilled person power; but will also help in utilizing to the max the demographic dividend advantage that India has.

Atleast GOI has made an effort to help the common people in some way. This very thought is very impressive. There are many such efforts made by naukri.com, monster.com but all it offers you now-a-days is call center jobs that’s it. Job opportunities should be according to the interests & educational background of the candidates.
