Star News which we covered recently for their channel launch on youtube has expressed interest for syndication deals with foriegn website partners. This interest was elicited via the social media platform of Linkedin where in Tanmay Shanishchara who is part of the new media business at Star News expressed interest from the channel’s end to find syndication partners.
Here is what he wrote:
“Looking for Content syndication partners for a television news channel.
I am looking forward to distribute my news content on internet through various content distribution channels. I am not being able to reach right distribution partner though, tried searching on net, forums etc. I want to monetize my content and reach out to larger audience in US, UK and APAC countries.
More info: we are news corp. company, India’s largest news network and our content is highly popular in India.
I would appreciate if somebody can share list of potential content distributors!”

Potential For Indian Content Syndication Abroad?
Now the important question is how big is the online syndication market for Indian content. There are ofcourse no numbers available but NRI’s do form a large part of digital sales for guys like Rajshri who sell their content online. The very fact the Star News is searching content syndication partners via Linkedin tells you something on the dearth of buyers for Indian content abroad. Nevertheless its very possible that with continued efforts syndication can be built into a relevant revenue stream. We did contact Tanmay for information on what potential they see in the content syndication markets but he refused to comment stating that it was too early to comment.
