Blogging has been around for more than a. It was ten years ago when true sense of blogging was established amongst not only geeks but also non-tech savvy individuals who have a point to make. WATBlog itself has been around for over 3 years and we thought it was about time to we wrote a post on how one can be wise while marketing a thought via one’s blog.. Here are our top 5 tips..
- Provide Content They Want To Read – Too many bloggers make the mistake of blogging what they want to blog and assume that their focus would be their audiences focus as well. Its important to understand your audience and what they would be interested in. For example if you audience is a bunch of rock and roll fans and you run a music blog then one should look at rock n roll gear as a prospective topic as to where can one buy music instruments etc.
- Add Value Where There Is None – Lots of bloggers rehash the same tips, trends and advise thats already available while what is important is to add value where no one else seems to be adding any. Take for example the popular Indian blogger Amit Agarwal of Labnol fame who posts tips and tricks which may seem trivial at first but are immensely useful and are rarely covered by any other blog.
- Engage Readers With Content & Contests - Its important to judge the reaction of your audience and take their opinion on what you are saying. Its also called harnessing the wisdom of the crowds and this is very important if you want to take your blog from just content provider to a community.
- Engage Relevant Advertisers – Another mistake bloggers make is not engaging advertisers. Advertising isn’t a bad word if engaged in a way that adds value to both advertiser and your audience. Once you know the topics and insights your audience is interested in then provide them with advertiser products and discounts that match those interests and that will infact grow your readerbase.
- Social Media Marketing – Social media is big and when blogging you can’t ignore the same. So retweets, fanpages and groups on social media are important. Invite and recommend that your readers join them as its shows the world who are your loyal readers and readers themselves can know who are the others reading your blogs.
